I’m officially a mummy! My sweet baby girl was born on July 14th and I’ve been loving these first few weeks with her. We’re definitely still in the ‘newborn bubble of bliss’ that people talk about where there’s no routine or normalcy and everything is all about baby. During this period I’ve had time to think about how my life will look like when we do get back into some structure and about how I’m going to balance mum-life and work.
One question her dad and I discussed was whether or not we wanted to share her photos on social media. Although we’re both very private people, I was looking at other successful artists sharing a lot of their personal life on social media and thought that I had to do the same so that people could ‘get to know me’ more and feel ‘more connected to my work’ which might be true but wasn’t really what I wanted to do.
I don’t want this to sound like I’m judging those who do choose to share more, that’s great if it works for them, but I just wanted to make the point that we shouldn’t feel that we need to, especially if it makes us feel uncomfortable, so for our family we’ve chosen not to share her photos, at least for now. I hope you’ll be understanding of our decision and I’d love to hear your ideas about sharing personal things online and any advice from other working mums out there when it comes to balancing the two!
